Best Mississippi Sports Betting Sites & Apps 2025
In 2017, Mississippi legalized Daily Fantasy Sports through the Fantasy Contest Act H 697. The state became one of the first jurisdictions in the US to have a regulated DFS market. Although this didn’t quite legalize sports betting at the time, the new legislation required a rewording of the state’s Gaming Control Act of 1972 which subsequently removed the prohibition of sports wagers from state law.
This left the door open for the state to launch sports betting in the event of the federal ban on it being lifted. That happened on May 14th, 2018, when the Supreme Court ruled that the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992 (PASPA) was unconstitutional following a legal challenge by the state of New Jersey.
Thanks to the legislation passed in 2017 and the establishment of a regulatory framework, Mississippi was in a position to launch its sports betting industry on August 1st, 2018.

Since then, the market has grown, but a legal requirement that all gamblers must be in a retail sportsbook to place a bet even when using a mobile sports betting app has seen the industry fail to live up to its potential.
House Bill 774, sponsored by Rep. Casey Eure, was passed by the House and then a Senate committee in April 2024 as lawmakers seek to expand the current gaming laws to allow for mobile sports betting throughout the state.
The Mississippi Gaming Commission regulates all sports wagering activity and is responsible for the issuance of licenses and ensuring that all sportsbooks operate within the state’s gambling rules and regulations.
