Research shows an increase in the US women sports betting segment, pointing at a steady annual growth of a so far relatively untapped market

Each year the amount of women who bet on sports continues to rise, creating a shift in the target audience of sportsbooks. Whether it’s due to the increased accessibility of sports betting, or the growth of women’s sports into mainstream sports media – more women are betting on sports than in previous years.

In research data from 2022, 3.2 million American women joined sportsbooks in just that year alone, a 45% hike from 2021.

That jump in female members outpaced the number of men joining the app for the third year running, per GW Solutions.

Overall, women are beginning to take up a larger space in the sports betting world.
The findings hint at a growing market that will continue on this trajectory in the coming years. With more women regularly wagering on sports, what follows is the hiring of more women in the gaming and casino industries, which in turn could lead to an increased interest in the igaming segment as a whole.

Betting Ladies recently talked to Kim Faulds, who leads the Caesars Sportsbook and iCasino VIP Department in Las Vegas. She said that the role of women in sports betting spaces is to “make their presence known”:

“Women need to speak out and publicly support companies that recognize the value of diversity”, Faulds says, “Women may not see the opportunities they have in sports betting but the growth in the industry has opened new doors.”

This increase of women in betting also highlights the need for more women-centered betting communities. As it stands, most advertisement, engagement and community being built in the betting space – especially as it becomes legal in more places – is geared toward men.

As we’ve seen with the rise of women’s sports, if you build it they will come. The same could apply to communities targeted toward women who like to watch and bet on sports.
Faulds also emphasized the desire women have for simply having an easy-to-use interface and a community of friends to enjoy games and betting with. More than anything, it is clear that women want to feel valued in the community they are a part of.
So, with the rise of women bettors, operators catering to women bettors will need to keep focusing on creating women-centered betting experiences, and a shift towards making betting a more inclusive space for all.
