Iowa Sports Betting

Iowa moved quickly to pass sports betting legislation following a Supreme Court ruling on May 14th 2018 that the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992 (PASPA) was unconstitutional lifting the federal ban on sports betting. A year later, Governor Kim Reynolds signed HF 2448 into law allowing the state to get to work on establishing a regulatory framework for legal sports betting in Iowa.

Three months later in August 2019, the state’s retail and online sportsbooks began taking their first sports wagers.

There are now 18 sportsbooks located at casinos with numerous mobile sports betting apps in operation within the state.
