The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has announced that it has blocked five illegal online gambling websites in its most recent efforts to eliminate unlicensed gambling operators from the Australian market.
The ACMA requested that local internet service providers (ISPs) block the websites so that Australian gamblers would no longer be able to access them. The five websites that the ACMA found were in breach of the Interactive Gambling Act 2001 are:
- Reef Reels
- Royal Reels
- Ricky Casino
- Slots Gallery
- Slotastic
This latest action brings the total number of gambling sites blocked by the ACMA since November 2019 to 803. According to the ACMA’s records, over 200 unlicensed gambling businesses have also withdrawn from the Australian market since 2017.
The ACMA’s announcement of its latest blocks follows this week’s federal court decision to fine Redraw Poker AU$5 million following civil action taken out by the ACMA. This was the first time that civil action was initiated as a direct result of breaches of the Interactive Gambling Act.
