The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has announced that it has added a further five unlicensed online gambling websites to its list of sites blocked in the local market.

According to the ACMA announcement, the regulator has requested that internet service providers block access to the following illegal gambling websites:

  • Viperspin
  • Just Casino
  • Betandplay
  • Play Fina
  • Comic Play Casino

Following an investigation all five were found to be in breach of the Interactive Gambling Act 2001.

835 websites have been blocked by the ACMA since it first began taking action against unlicensed online gambling in November 2019. According to the ACMA’s records, around 215 unlicensed gambling businesses have also withdrawn from the Australian market since 2017.

The ACMA’s latest action follows the recent launch of BetStop, Australia’s first nation-wide self exclusion program for gamblers. The program allows Australians to self exclude from all licensed online and telephone-based gambling services throughout Australia.

According to the latest global gambling statistics, Australia has the highest gambling losses per person at around AU$1850 ($1200/€1210) per year.
