Australian gambling operator Crown Resorts has revealed that it is currently investigating a potential data breach following an attack by a hacking group.

The company confirmed the attack targeted its third-party file transfer service GoAnywhere. As a result of the attack, the group now claims to have files belonging to Crown.

In a statement released yesterday, a Crown spokesperson said:

“We were recently contacted by a ransomware group who claim they have illegally obtained a limited number of Crown files. We are investigating the validity of this claim as a matter of priority.

We can confirm no customer data has been compromised and our business operations have not been impacted.

We are continuing to work with law enforcement and have notified our gaming regulators as part of the ongoing investigation and will provide relevant updates, as necessary.”

GoAnywhere has been targeted by hackers on numerous occasions as US cybersecurity firm Fortra stated that the suspicious activity began as early as two months ago.
