In an email sent to its customers based in Germany, Betfair has announced that it will cease offering sports betting services on its German website from 3pm GMT on Wednesday June 30th 2021.

Betfair — owned by Flutter Entertainment — has already blocked registrations for new players on their German website beginning today, June 29th 2021. While no betting will be allowed from 3pm on the 30th, the website will remain open to allow German customers to withdraw funds from their accounts. There has been no mention of a cut off date for the withdrawal of funds or closing of accounts.

The email sent to gambling industry affiliates who are promoting Betfair reads as follows:

Unfortunately we will be closing Betfair Germany from the 30th June 2021.

We will block registrations from 29th June 2021
No betting allowed as of 3pm GMT on Wednesday, 30th June 2021
Betfair website will still be available for German customers only to withdraw their funds

Kind Regards,

Betfair Int Partners

No reason has been given for the decision to block registrations from Germany although the news comes just before the new licensing application procedures for online gambling are set to begin on July 1st.
