Australian sports-betting provider PointsBet has received official approval as a regulated online sportsbook in Ontario from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO).

PointsBet is the first online operator to receive complete approval for Ontario’s iGaming industry debut, which is scheduled for April 4th, 2022.

“Being the first operator to announce we have received a license from the AGCO to go live in Ontario when the regulated market opens on April 4 makes me beyond proud. Our continued, genuine commitment to Canada and the work behind-the-scenes in building a best-in-class Canadian platform, team, and authentic brand has me so excited for the big day. I can’t want to help unveil the premier Canadian sports betting experience”

– Nic Sulsky – Chief Commercial Officer PointsBet Canada speaking to GamblingIndustryNews.com.

According to the AGCO, iGaming in Ontario is expected to generate gross revenues of around $1 billion CAD in the first year alone.
The AGCO has yet to publish a complete list of permitted iGaming and sports betting businesses.

In related news, PointsBet reported that the Wyoming Gaming Commission has approved its application for an online sports betting license.
