Officials at Jake’s 58 Casino Hotel are warning Long Islanders about a fraudulent online post, attempting to scam locals through an online gambling scheme. The casino-hotel team posted this important notice to the website:
“We’ve recently been made aware of a fraudulent online post claiming to offer online gambling services affiliated with Jake’s 58 Casino Hotel. Please be advised Jake’s 58 does not offer any form of online gambling, and we are not affiliated with any websites, apps, or platforms claiming to offer such services. These claims are part of a scam designed to mislead and potentially harm users.”
In New York, although it is legal to place wagers on sports, horse racing, and play the lottery, online casino gambling remains illegal. Casino officials are urging individuals not to click on any suspicious links or download any related content.
“If anybody in New York State is asking you to bet on poker, blackjack, or any slot-type machines on your computer, it’s illegal and you can’t do it,” Suffolk OTB President and CEO Phil Boyle said. “It’s a scam. They’re going to take your money.”
Jack’s 58 Casino Hotel Cannot Legally Offer Online Gambling
The Jake’s 58 Casino Hotel team also added in the notice that the company never gave any business or group its consent to use “logos, photos, or branding” online.
“Anything that seems friendly and that catches you off guard, unless it’s actually from a friend of yours, is probably looking to scam you,” TechRadar Editor-at-Large Lance Uhlanoff told News 12 Long Island.
Commenters on the Jake’s 58 Facebook page also wrote:
“I did [receive a solicitation], but quickly realized it was fraud as there is no legal online gambling in NY. I hope you are going after the people,” wrote one man.
“People should know the only legal online gambling in NY is sports betting,” another user wrote.
Identity theft experts are urging individuals who may have clicked a link, shared personal information, or given money to contact police to file a report.
