In what was the state’s first billion-dollar month since February 2020, Nevada’s casinos collected $1.066 billion in revenue for the month of March. According to the Nevada Gaming Control Board’s monthly reports, this was the state’s highest single-month total since February 2013.
This marked a 72.6% increase on March 2020 when in-person gaming was shut down due to the global pandemic and a 4.3% rise on March 2019.
Casinos on Las Vegas Strip collected $501.4 million marking a 67.2% increase on the March of 2020. Reno Casinos also fared well with over $59 million in revenue marking an increase of 163.7% on the same period last year. Downtown Las Vegas casinos reported a record $71 million in revenue.
The 2021 NCAA March Madness basketball tournament saw a significant increase in sports bets with Nevada sportsbooks posting a sports betting handle of $640.7 million. This was a 354.3% increase on March of 2020. Total revenues amounted to $39.3 million which is a significant improvement on last year’s loss of $37.9 million.
Basketball accounted for $501 million of the total handle while football bets saw operators pay out $8.2 million after taking in only $2.7 million in bets.
