Mobile sports betting in the state of New York recorded its lowest total in almost a year during the month of June.
Online New York sports betting was legalized in early 2022 and has since become a phenomenon but revenue took a slight dip in the sixth month of the calendar year.
According to data from the New York State Gaming Commission, New York’s mobile sports betting handle in June dropped markedly from May’s numbers.
New York Mobile Sports Betting In June Down 25.4% From May
The June numbers marked the weakest performance since August 2024 when bettors staked $1.45 billion with sports betting apps.
The state recorded $1.65 billion in mobile wagers in June, down 25.4% from May’s $2.21 billion.
That number of $1.65 billion is still 12% higher than the handle from June 2024, so there is strong evidence of a longer-term growth trend.
Despite the decline in betting with online casinos, New York’s gross gaming revenue (GGR) remained sturdy at $206.5 million, down 17% from the previous month but an increase of 65.2% from June 2024.
There is a positive to take from June for the New York sports betting industry as that GGR total marked the third-highest revenue month so far in 2025.
The decline in turnover could well be down to the New York Knicks’ exit from the NBA playoffs, who were beaten in six games by the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals and sent packing before the month of June began.
FanDuel And DraftKings Continue As Top Dogs In New York Sports Betting
FanDuel continued its position in terms of revenue with $86.3 million from $563.7 million taken in wagers, which translates to a hold rate of 15.31%.
DraftKings took the most money in bets with $607 million, generating $69.8 million in revenue with a slightly lower hold of 11.5%.
Fanatics ($17.3 million), Caesars ($13.8 million) and BetMGM ($11.9 million) were the next closest operators in terms of revenue.
