According to an email sent to its employees, Planet Hollywood’s poker room will close permanently on July 11th, 2021. Owner Caesars Entertainment sent out the email confirming the closure and advising employees to direct players to other Caesars properties in Vegas including the nearby Bally’s Las Vegas, Caesars Palace, and Flamingo Las Vegas.
If it closes, the poker room will join those at Binion’s, Excalibur, Mandalay Bay, and The Mirage who have all closed permanently in recent months.
The 10-table Planet Hollywood poker room is known for its proximity to the so-called ‘Pleasure Pit’ located at the centre of the casino floor. What made this unique and somewhat infamous was the lack of barriers separating the poker tables from the rest of the casino floor. This and the nearby dancers in cages at the ‘Pleasure Pit’ made it a polarizing room in the poker scene with some players loving it while other hated it.
The poker room closed during the pandemic but reopened in October of 2020. It was due to host the GOLIATH series from May 28th to July 8th 2020, but due to the pandemic the event was put on hold. The news that the room is set to close suggests that the series has been cancelled outright.
Planet Hollywood have yet to make an official statement on the expected closure while there’s no confirmation on the Caesars Entertainment website or social media profiles.
