Shaquille O’Neal will become the face of PointsBet’s 2021 Australian marketing campaign.

In a move that came a little out of leftfield, PointsBet announced that three-time NBA Championship winner and MVP Shaq would be the very recognizable face of their latest campaign across TV and social media.

Speaking after the announcement, PointsBet chief marketing officer and co-founder Andrew Fahey said:

“Shaq is an iconic figure in the worlds of sports and entertainment and was our clear number one pick to represent the PointsBet brand in Australia,”

He went on to add that “US sports, particularly professional basketball, continue to be the fastest-growing betting sport in Australia, and we are very excited to align with such a transcendent athlete.”

The big Shaq announcement comes hot on the heels of PointsBet’s recent signing of former NBA champion Rip Hamilton as a brand ambassador for Michigan where the brand has just launched a sportsbook.

Shaq himself said that he was happy to join an up and coming sports betting brand and said “The rise of responsible sports betting is really exciting, and I am so excited to join forces with PointsBet, the best-in-class partner in Australia when it comes to online sportsbooks.”

It’s been a busy month for PointsBet that saw the brand launch in Michigan, sign two former NBA champions as brand ambassadors and strike a deal with the NHL’s Detroit Red Wings.
