Organizers of the Irish Poker Open have announced that the 2022 event will go ahead following the lifting of Covid restrictions in Ireland.
The event, Europe’s longest running poker festival, will take place from April 11th to April 18th 2022 at the Citywest Hotel in Dublin.
The Open was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to measures put in place by the Irish government during the global pandemic. However, Taoiseach Micheál Martin confirmed last week that all restrictions would be lifted by February.
This year’s Irish Poker Open event schedule includes 42 tournaments ranging from €100 to €5,000 including 14 Championship Events. Event organizers Paul O’Reilly and JP McCann have also revealed that the buy-in for the Main Event will remain at €1,150. The Main Event starts on Day 1 at 12 noon with the Main Event Champion crowned on Monday 18th April 2022.
The news was announced through a press release in which the organizers said:
“We have always said how exciting it is to launch the Irish Poker Open each year, however, the launch of Irish Poker Open 2022 definitely feels a little extra special, given the particularly difficult times people have gone through over the last two years. We are really looking forward to welcoming all of our Irish and International players back to the Irish felt, whilst ensuring that player and staff safety remain at the forefront of our minds.
The last Irish Poker Open Live Event ran in 2019 and attracted 1807 Main Event players which generated a massive €1,805,870 prize pool and a first prize of €300,000. After a two year hiatus, we are working tirelessly behind the scenes to bring Irish Poker to life again with the return of the Irish Poker Open Festival in April 2022.”
