Playmaker, a leading sports media and talent management brand, has announced the launch of its new ‘Playmaker Betting’ vertical that will produce content related to sports betting, poker, events, and games. The new vertical is backed by high-profile investors including professional poker player Jeff Gross.
The newly launched ‘Playmaker Betting’ will also produce collaborative content with Gross including episodes on his popular podcast and a series that will document the highlights of his journey through the World Series of Poker. The collaborations with Gross will go live across Playmaker’s various social media accounts that currently have over 10 million followers.
The news follows the soft launch of the company’s sports betting vertical in early August that saw Playmaker partner with sportsbook operators such as BetMGM and CircaSports among others. The company has also revealed that it has more than 25 original series and podcasts penciled in for production and release in 2021.
Speaking following the announcement, Brandon Harris, Playmaker CEO said:
“We see the future of sports betting content being short-form, snackable video & audio content, as well as two-way, conversational live experiences, from events to SMS, streaming and everything in between. We will create content & experiences that are fun, engaging & informative first, and naturally introduce sports betting into the conversation,”
On the addition of Jeff Gross to the team, David Woodley, CCO and CRO at Playmaker said:
“We are thrilled to bring on Jeff Gross as not only an investor, but an advisor as well. Jeff has already provided us several valuable alignments with his existing network and portfolio and will be announcing those partnerships later this month.”
Gross himself added:
“Playmaker was a perfect fit. One of my close friends, Phil Hellmuth, introduced me to the guys. We have some cool things coming up for the World Series of Poker. The sports industry is growing so quickly. Betting is becoming less taboo and legalized at a federal level. Poker is coming back online in many states. People are gonna do it anyway, you want to show them good value spots, just do it responsibly.”
As part of the announcement Playmaker also revealed that it has partnered with the AFFL to launch its Speed Survivor SMS game for the NFL season. The free-to-play text game is a quiz game played through SMS where the last player wins a grand prize. It was first launched during the NBA draft.
