The Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) has approved Penn Sports Interactive and its Barstool brand as a suitable applicant for a temporary mobile sports betting license.
However, the issuance of a temporary license will come with some conditions that include an in-depth investigation into the company’s business practices.
The decision was made at a public meeting yesterday and followed an earlier announcement by Penn Entertainment that it would remove the contentious ‘risk free’ term from all its sports betting and gambling promotions within the state.
Other conditions tied to the category 3 sports wagering license include a guarantee that no minors will be allowed to attend any Barstool college events.
In its prepared statement, the MGC said:
“Penn Sports Interactive (PSI) is now eligible to request a temporary license to conduct sports wagering while a full suitability review is undertaken by the MGC. Following a temporary license being granted, PSI must obtain an operations certificate and meet additional conditions before they can accept wagers on approved sporting events.”
