National Lottery

Incumbent National Lottery supplier Camelot has informed the UK Gambling Commission that it has withdrawn its appeal against the Commission’s decision not to award it a license.
IGT will continue with its appeal

Earlier this year, the UKGC announced that it had awarded the final National Lottery license to to Allwyn Entertainment UK. Both Camelot and another bidder IGT appealed the decision and a temporary suspension of Allwyn’s licnese came into immediate effect. That suspension was then lifted by the High Court. Camelot and IGT then went to the Court of Appeal and were granted permission to appeal the High Court’s decision.

However, the UKGC confirmed last night that Camelot had indicated that it would withdraw its appeal and instead seek compensation for the non-awarding of the license.

The UKGC stated that it was not aware of IGT’s stance and assumes that the IGT appeal will continue and the suspension of Allwyn’s licnese will remain in effect until the matter is resolved.

In a statement the UKGC said:

Our priority is to continue to work to implement our decision and ensure a seamless and timely transition to the next licence, for the benefit of participants and good causes.

We remain resolute that we have run a fair and robust competition, and that our evaluation has been carried out fairly and lawfully in accordance with our statutory duties.

We do not intend to comment further at this stage.
