The Danish Gambling Authority, Spillemyndigheden, has released its latest gambling data report showing that overall gross gaming revenue (GGR) across the country’s four main markets came to kr665 million (€89.1 million) in the month of December, a 22.6% year-on-year increase.
The latest figures mean that GGR for the calendar year 2023 across sports betting, gaming machines, online casinos, and land-based casinos came to kr6.7 billion (€898.6 million), an increase of 1% compared to the year 2022.
December 2023 Figures
- Sports betting GGR – kr226 million (€30.3 million), up by 67.7% year-on-year
- Online casinos GGR – kr305 million (€40.9 million), up by 11.85% year-on-year
- Gaming machine GGR – kr99 million (€13.2 million), down by 0.76% year-on-year
- Land-based casinos GGR – kr35 million (€4.6 million), up by 1.09% year-on-year
2023 Full Year Highlights
- Sports betting GGR – kr2.18 billion (€292.3 million), up by 5.91% year-on-year
- Online casinos GGR – kr3.07 billion (€411.7 million), up by 5.95% year-on-year
- Gaming machine GGR – kr1.17 billion (€156.9 million), down by 1.79% year-on-year
- Land-based casinos GGR – kr362 million (€48.5 million), up by 3.63% year-on-year
15% of Minors Gamble Illegally
Earlier in January, Spillemyndigheden, published findings from a study on Danish gambling habits, highlighting that 15% of Danish teenagers aged 15-17 have gambled online.
The study also found that 21.7% of respondents gambled online in the previous year while the average spend was DKK 6,500. 3.8% of respondents also admitted to using illegal online gambling websites
