The Danish Gambling Authority, Spillemyndigheden, has released its full year report on illegal gambling in the Danish market throughout 2023.
According to the report, 2023 saw the regulator block 49 illegal websites. Theses included casino and sports betting sites such as stake.com, unislots.com, evospin.com, and mansioncasino.com. The regulator also blocked 13 skin betting websites including csgopositive.me and drop.skin.
The year also saw 27 websites identified that contained illegal marketing in relation to gambling. These included sites that specifically recommended gambling operators that would allow self-excluding gamblers to join and place wagers. The majority of these sites used terms such as “Gamble without ROFUS” – ROFUS is the Danish Gambling Authority’s register of self-excluded players. One person was fined DKK 100,000 in relation to the illegal marketing on the websites.
The report also revealed that traffic to illegal gambling websites has dropped significantly. According to data, visits to illegal gambling sites fell from 15.8 million in 2017 to just 1.8 million in 2023, a decrease of 89%.
Spillemyndigheden also noted that it will work in tandem with both Apple and Google to identify illegal gambling apps on their app stores. Both companies will then remove the apps from the store or restrict access to them in the Danish market.
2023 also saw no instances of the promotion of illegal gambling on streaming services Twitch, YouTube Gaming,
Facebook Gaming, and Kick.
