The Danish gambling regulator, Spillemyndigheden, has released its latest quarterly revenue report revealing that gambling revenue during the second quarter increased by 7.4% year-on-year.
Casino revenues grew by 163.4% year-on-year
According to the report, revenues for Q2 came to DKK1.68 billion (€227.2 million), up from DKK1.57bn (€211.1 million) in the previous quarter.
The growth was primarily driven by land-based gambling as online sports betting and casino gaming saw declines in revenues. The reopening of casinos played a significant role following a period of enforced closures during the global pandemic.
The report states that land-based casino revenues from table games grew by 163.4% to DK97 million (€13 million). Casino slots revenues increased by as much as 95.4% to DKK319 million (€42.8 million).
Despite a drop in revenues, online casinos remained the main revenue generator for the local gambling industry as online gambling operators reported combined revenues of DKK708 million (€95.2 million) for the quarter. This was a drop of 1% when compared to the same period in 2021.
Sports betting revenue also saw a decrease in revenues as operators reported DKK565 million (€75.9 million) in revenue. This was a drop of 14.1% year-on-year.
The report also reveals that 33,648 people had joined the Register of Voluntarily Excluded Players (ROFUS) with 76% of that figure being male.
