ANJ French Gambling Regulator

The French gambling regulator, L’Autorité Nationale des Jeux (ANJ), has announced that an independent Sanctions Committee has warned seven online gambling operators for exceeding the return-to-player rate limit.

According to French gambling regulations, mobile sports betting operators are not allowed to redistribute more than 85% of stakes received to its customers. This prevents the distribution of excessive bonuses and promotions and has been linked to a reduction in problem gambling. The regulator also notes that the rate limit is also in place to prevent money laundering.

Following an investigation, the ANJ discovered that seven separate gambling operators had exceeded the rate in 2021. The regulator opted to open proceedings against the operators.

The Sanctions Committee, which runs independently from the ANJ, has made the decision to issue all seven operators with an official warning but has opted against any financial penalties.
