The German gambling regulator, Gemeinsame Glücksspielbehörde der Länder (GGL) has fined online gambling operator Red Rhino Ltd €50,000 for providing illegal gambling products and services in the German market.
According to the announcement, GGL had previously issued a warning and prohibition order to the company informing it to remove an offer that targeted the German public on its platincasino.de domain. While the company removed the offer from its German domain, it was still available and accessible to German customers via the company’s platincasino.com domain.
The GGL noted that a payment service provider that operated with Red Rhino in the German market has also been fined for facilitating unlicensed gambling activity.
GGL Board member Benjamin Schwanke said:
“The GGL’s measures are having an impact and we are seeing an increasing pushback on existing unauthorized online gambling offers.”
Fellow board member Ronald Benter added:
“ This goes hand in hand with channeling to legal offers. Consumers should make sure that they only use legal online gambling offers, as the strict legal player protection measures are supervised by the GGL.”
Red Rhino’s penalty can be increased if the operator fails to take action to remove itself from the local market.
According to the latest Global Gambling Statistics, Germany has the second highest number of active gamblers in the world with 29 million people gambling regularly.
