Ahead of the industry launch, the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission (KHRC) has announced that approved mobile sports betting operators can start pre-registering customers from August 28th.
In July of this year, the KHRC announced that the official launch date for retail sports betting is September 7th while mobile sports betting will get underway on September 28th.
Prior to the launch of sports betting in Kentucky, the KHRC will vote on approval of the seven potential licensees at a meeting scheduled for August 22nd. Once approved, retail operators will have just six days to prepare for the pre-registration process. Customers who pre-register and verify their identity with any sports betting operator will need to wait ten days before making a deposit into their accounts.
In its latest announcement, the KHRC gave a timeline for sports betting launch:
- August 22nd – KHRC will meet to vote on license applications for mobile and retail operators.
- August 28th, 6 a.m. – Sports bettors can pre-register an account with approved mobile applications
- September 7th, 10 a.m. – Kentuckians can place an in-person wager at licensed retail sportsbooks.
- September 7th, 6 a.m. – Customers can deposit money into their pre-registered account with approved mobile sportsbooks.
- September 28th, 6 a.m. – Approved mobile sports betting operators can start taking wagers.
Speaking of the launch Gov. Andy Beshear said:
“The countdown is on. We are just three weeks away from sports wagering in Kentucky. We are ready to deliver the quality entertainment experience Kentuckians asked for while bringing money to the state to support pensions and free up funds that can be used to build a better Kentucky.”
KHRC Chairman Jonathan Rabinowitz added:
“The KHRC is excited to open sports wagering and is working efficiently to meet the necessary deadlines. This is a careful process dedicated to wagering integrity and protecting bettors in the state of Kentucky.”
