The Lithuanian Gambling Supervisory Authority has fined Amber Gaming €15,000 (£13,043/$15,897) for limiting a customer’s bets and access to betting offers without notice or good reason.
According to a statement released by the regulator, the customer made a complaint against Amber Gaming, who runs 7bet, on May 25th, 2023. In their complaint the customer said that the company had limited their ability to place wagers without prior warning.
The regulator contacted Amber Gaming who stated that the customer had placed 279 wagers on its sports betting platform. However, the company did not give any further details or reasoning behind the limits place on the customer’s account.
As a result, the regulator carried out an unplanned inspection of Amber Gaming’s compliance with local gambling regulations. The inspection was aimed at determining whether the company breached rules in relation to Article 18, paragraph 1 of the Law on Gambling of Lithuania.
In order to place limits on the customer’s account, the company would have to provide proof that the customer broke rules or was legally disqualified in some way from placing wagers. Amber Gaming could provide no such proof and the regulator then determined that it had acted illegally by placing limits on the customer’s account.
Amber Gaming can now appeal the fine.
During the past year, Amber Gaming has been fined several times for breaching rules with regards to the promotion of gambling through its 7bet brand.
So far in 2023, gambling regulators across the globe have issued a total of €358,607,896 (£311,746,695/$379,668,761) in fines and penalties.
