According to local news reports, the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) has placed multiple Iowa-based college athletes under investigation for alleged gambling violations.

As a result of the investigation, Iowa withheld several of its baseball players from playing on Friday of last week. At the time, Iowa released a brief statement saying:

“due to a potential NCAA violation, we withheld some student athletes from competition.”

While the statement failed to name the athletes involved, Hawkeyes star player Keaton Anthony was a notable omission from the Hawkeyes series squad to face Ohio State. Anthony has appeared in the last 43 games and had no known injury issues.

The news of the NCAA investigation follows last week’s move by the Ohio Casino Control Commission to suspend all betting on Alabama college baseball teams. The decision was based on suspicious betting activity in the Crimson Tide’s game against LSU. LSU had led the game by 8-1 after seven innings, but a late charge by the Crimson Tide saw the game end 8-6.

That investigation is believed to have led to the firing of Alabama baseball coach Brad Bohanon based on video evidence of the coach’s actions during the game.
