Dutch Gambling Regulator Reports Online Market Worth €80 Million Per Month

The Netherlands gambling regulator Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) has reported that the legal market for online gambling is stable and generating around €80 million in revenues each month.

Legal online gambling in the Netherlands launched on October 1st, 2021 and since then the regulator has issued 22 remote gambling licenses. Revenues are reported on a monthly basis with the KSA and although the industry only launched with ten licensed operators, monthly data reveals that revenues have remained consistent throughout that time.

The first half of 2022 saw revenues fluctuate from €90 million (January) down to €75 million (February and March) while July saw revenues of €86 million.

While there are no exact figures on how many players gambling online in the Netherlands, the KSA has revealed that in July of 2022, there were 563,000 active accounts on licensed gambling websites. However, it noted that players can hold accounts on multiple websites. The average monthly loss per player account since launch is now €153.

General public prefers legal providers

The KSA has also reported a shift in attitude towards unlicensed gambling operators. According to research, 8 out of 10 players will now only consider gambling with legal providers. The research also revealed that 85% of gamblers used legal providers exclusively.

Exclusion figures

On October 1st, 2021 the Central Register Exclusion of Chance Games (Cruks) launched. Since then, more than 23,000 people have registered and voluntarily self-excluded from online gambling.
