The Netherlands gambling authority, de Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), has fined online gambling provider Bingoal Nederland €400,000 for advertising its products to young adults.

According to a KSA statement, an investigation was launched following a complaint related to a broadcast of popular TV show Kassa. The investigation revealed that during commercial breaks at the time of the broadcast, Bingoal advertised its online gambling products. As the show Kassa targets young adults between the ages of 18-24, the KSA determined that Bingoal had breached gambling advertising regulations. These rules stipulate that gambling operators cannot target the 18-24 year old market in any way whatsoever.

As a result of the investigation’s findings, the KSA imposed a fine of €400,000 on Bingoal.

Bingoal is the fourth gambling operator to be fined as part of this investigation. The KSA previously fined Betent, Bet365, and JOI Gaming €400,000 each for similar breaches.

This brings the total fines for 2023 to more than €59.6 million while the KSA’s fines make up almost €9.9 million of that figure. Gambling industry fines in 2022 came to €251,712,034 / $269,532,490 – a significant increase of 443.9% compared to 2021’s total of €44,753,969 / $48,642,992.
