The Ohio Casino Control Commission (OCCC), which oversees the regulation of the OH sports betting industry, has informed sportsbooks to pause betting on all college baseball games involving the University of Alabama with immediate effect.
The decision comes after some suspicious betting activity was discovered on the Crimson Tide’s game against LSU on Friday of last week. LSU had led the game by 8-1 after seven innings, but a late charge by the Crimson Tide saw the game end 8-6. Ahead of the game, LSU were -245 favorites to win the game.
The OCCC made its decision on Monday notifying all sports betting operators that they must not accept wagers on the upcoming Alabama game vs. Vanderbilt on Thursday of this week.
According to the OCCC’s directive all sportsbooks must cease “the acceptance of any wagers on University of Alabama baseball effective immediately.”
An independent integrity monitor, U.S. Integrity, brought the suspicious activity to the attention of its sports betting clients and state regulators. However, as there is no national regulator for the industry, state gaming authorities must make their own decisions based on integrity reports. Ohio is the first and only state regulator to issue a directive in relation to the suspicious activity.
