Parx Casino PA

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board has announced that it has voted unanimously to award a Category 4 casino license to Greenwood Gaming and Entertainment, owner of Parx Casinos.

The board made the decision following a lengthy application and bidding process that started back in February 2018. Greenwood Gaming’s winning bid of $8,111,000 will see the company open a casino in a former Lowe’s Home Supply store located in Shippen Town Center.

The new Parx Casino Shippenburg will be a 73,000 square foot venue with 500 slot machines, electronic tables games, and a sports bar and restaurant. There is also hope that a retail sportsbook will open in the venue at some point in the future but there are no definite plans as of yet and any launch would be subject to regulatory approval.

The license also allows Greenwood to expand its slot machines to a maximum total of 750 while there is scope to offer up to 30 table games should the operator wish to do so. Table games will only be permitted following the payment of an additional $2.5 million fee which will allow a further 10 table games to be added after one year.

Greenwood has said that it expects to create 175 construction jobs during the building phase and more than 125 full-time jobs once the casino is open and fully operational. The company has also stated that the non-smoking casino should be open some time in late 2022.
