Sweden’s gambling authority, Spelinspektionen, has released its latest financial report revealing that gambling operators generated SEK 6.7 billion ($611.9 million/€573.8 million) in Q3 of 2023.
Online gambling once again the market leader with 63.1% of all revenues
According to the report this represents a minor decrease of just over 1% when compared to the SEK 6.77 billion reported in Q3 2022. The latest figures are nearly identical to those reported for Q2 of 2023 with less than a half a percent difference in overall revenues.
Online Gambling
Commercial online gambling including both online casino gaming and sports betting providers were the market leaders with SEK 4.25 billion ($388.1 million/€363.9 million) in combined revenues. This accounted for 63.1% of all gambling revenues in the industry. It also represented a 1.7% increase on the previous quarter but a 1.3% decrease on Q3 2022. So far this year, online gambling operators have generated SEK 12.6 billion ($1.1 billion/€1.07 billion) in revenues.
In-Person Gambling
State lottery and in-person slot games generated SEK 1.4 billion ($127.9 million/€119.9 million) in revenue for the quarter. This was roughly the same figure for the previous quarter and Q3 2022. This brings the year-to-date total for 2023 to SEK 4.1 billion ($374.6 million/€351.2 million).
The 2023 year-to-date total for gambling revenues now stands at just over SEK 20 billion ($1.8 billion/€1.7 billion).
The report also reveals that by the end of Q2, approximately 99,000 people had self-excluded from gambling through the national self-exclusion program Spelpaus.se. This represents a 4% increase on the previous quarter.
