According to Swedish gambling authority, Spelinspektionen, the government has proposed new measures designed to restrict illegal gambling companies from operating in the local market and limit the opportunities for match-fixing in Swedish sport.

The legislation was submitted to the Riksdag on Thursday December 15th and includes the following proposed measures:

  • Regulatory powers to decide what information payment service providers must provide in order to create a more effective system for blocking payments to unlicensed gambling.
  • Permission for Spelinspektionen to buy online gambling services under a hidden identity, so-called test purchases, to check that the gambling operator is complying with Gambling Act’s license requirements and promotion prohibitions
  • More opportunities for betting companies and sports associations to process and share bettor data to counter match-fixing
  • An obligation for gambling companies to hand over information to the police if required for an investigation into crimes in connection with gambling

The legislation proposes that the laws will come into effect on July 1st, 2023.
