The UK Gambling Commission has announced a new model for the gambling operator licence application process.
New model sees four sub-groups handle various aspects of the process
According to a statement released by the Commission, licensing will no longer operate under the model which required that each operator would have a dedicated account manager assigned by the Commission. This will remove the individual point of contact for each operator.
The newly adopted model will see licensing comprise four sub-groups as follows:
- The Operating Licence New Group – responsible for processing applications for new licences.
- The Change of Corporate Control Group – responsible for processing applications relating to changes of ownership and control for existing operators.
- The Operating Licence Vary Group – responsible for processing applications relating to changes to existing operator licences.
- The Personal Licence group – responsible for processing all applications relating to personal licences.
The Commission has stated that these changes are necessary as the regulator seeks to make the best use of the resources available to it. It’s believed that the new sub-groups will help to streamline the application and change of licence process while improving the efficiency of the query resolution process.
Applications will still be made by individual operators in the same manner with the requirement that any online provider apply online also remaining in place. However, postal applications will no longer be accepted by the Commission.
All applications will be assigned to a caseworker who will then contact the applicant with contact details and a timeline for the process.
The change to the licensing process follows the recent publication of new guidelines relating to rule changes for online gambling providers that will come into effect on September 12th, 2022.
