South Carolina Education Lottery to Adopt Scientific Games' SCiQ Retail Technology

Scientific Games, the world’s largest lottery games entity, will continue to power South Carolina Education Lottery “firsts” with the launch of the global company’s SCiQ retail ecosystem at retailers across the state.

The SCiQ technology systems will be deployed as part of the Lottery’s focus on improving the retail environment for its Scratch-Off games, simplifying how games are purchased and managed in stores.

SCiQ is currently deployed at chain and independent retailers in more than a dozen U.S. markets and recently launched for the first time in Europe.

Dolly Garfield, South Carolina Education Lottery Chief Executive Officer, said:

“We’re embarking upon our first retail modernization initiative with a trusted partner in Scientific Games. Our teams understand that retail has evolved considerably over the past decade, and we know it’s important to our players that SCEL Scratch-Offs are accessible and easy to purchase. SCiQ will also simplify operations for our retailers, offering efficiencies that increase the value of selling our games in their stores.”

Since 2002, Scientific Games has collaborated with SCEL on its first Scratch-Off game, first second-chance promotion, first player loyalty program, and now first retail modernization initiative.

South Carolina Education Lottery Is The World’s No. 3 Performing Instant Game Lottery

SCEL is the world’s No. 3 performing instant game lottery, according to La Fleur’s 2024 World Almanac. SCEL Scratch-Off games represented more than $1.6 billion in retail sales in fiscal year 2024.

SCiQ offers real-time scratch game inventory management data and creates supply chain efficiencies to boost scratch game sales. The tool will improve operational and reporting efficiencies in stores for retailers and SCEL.

Michael Martin, VP Retail Solutions for Scientific Games, said:

“We are honored to partner with the South Carolina Education Lottery on many exciting firsts since its inception. SCEL leadership has always demonstrated a great vision for how to drive performance and profitability for its Scratch-Off games, and SCiQ technology is the next step in ensuring continued success.”

South Carolina players will enjoy several unique benefits of SCiQ, such as new digital displays that provide details on available games. This essentially enhances the ordering experience.

In addition, SCiQ provides retailers with digital menu boards for modern product display, automated inventory management that can reduce out-of-stocks, real-time store-specific sales, and market basket performance reports. The system also reduces product theft by incorporating locked bins that automatically dispense tickets.
