The Michigan Gaming Control Board has approved 888 Holdings’ VHL, Michigan LLC as the new mobile sports betting partner of the Hannahville Indian Community.
According to a release issued by the MGCB, 888’s sports betting license came into effect on September 7th at 10am local time.
The tribe operates Island Resort and Casino in Harris, Mich.
The Hannahville Tribe was forced to seek a new mobile sports betting partner following TwinSpires’ announcement that it would exit the sports betting industry. TwinSpires had been the tribe’s online partner since sports betting in Michigan launched in January 2021.
Speaking of the approval, Henry Williams, MGCB executive director said:
“The Hannahville tribe is the first operator in Michigan to change platform providers since internet gaming and sports betting began here in January 2021. The tribe has found another experienced partner, and I wish them continued success.”
888’s Michigan platform will run under the Sports Illustrated brand and for the time being will focus only on its sports betting operations. According to the announcement, 888 specifically requested a license for sports betting only but will likely seek approval for online casino gaming later in 2022.
There are now fifteen internet gaming and sports betting operators approved by the MGCB.
