Betfred has extended its sponsorship of the World Matchplay Darts until at least 2030.

The popular UK betting site will continue to hold the naming rights to the World Matchplay (since 2019) and Women’s World Matchplay (since 2022) tournaments.

Prize funds in both events will increase from the 2026 renewal as the World Matchplay prize pool rises to £1 million including £225,000 to the winner while the Women’s World Matchplay purse goes up to £40,000.

The World Matchplay is one of three legs of the Triple Crown in darts alongside the World Championship and Premier League.

It has been played annually since 1994 in the Empress Ballroom at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool and unsurprisingly, sports betting apps have Luke Littler as the favourite in 2025.

PDC Excited About Prize Money Increases Following ‘Wonderful’ Extension

Chief Executive of the PDC, Matt Porter, said: “Betfred have become synonymous with the World Matchplay since joining us as title sponsor in 2019, and it’s wonderful that they’ve extended that support for a further five years.

“Their backing of the Betfred Women’s World Matchplay echoes their commitment to the sport, and we’re excited that prize money for both events will increase from 2026.”

Founder of Betfred, Fred Done, added: “We’re delighted to extend our sponsorship with the PDC for another five years, during an exciting period for darts as a sport.

“The quality of the field has never been stronger, and we can only see these tournaments continuing to grow.”

2025 World Matchplay Tickets Sold Out In Record Time, According To PDC

The PDC revealed this year’s World Matchplay tickets sold out in record time following the success of the 2024 tournament that saw a thrilling final where Luke Humphries got the better of Michael van Gerwen.

Beau Greaves has won each of the last two Women’s World Matchplay events after Fallon Sherrock took the inaugural title in 2022 and the defending champion is long odds-on with UK online casinos to retain her crown.
