Drake has been criticized for posting his gambling exploits on Instagram, showing losses of over $8 million for the month from bets of $124 million.

In the Instagram story, the Canadian rapper and ambassador to gambling company, Stake, commented, “Gotta share the other side of gambling…Losses are so fried right now hope I can post a big win for you all soon cause I’m the only one that has never seen a max these guys max once a week”.

Several celebrity news outlets criticized the post, showing users reacting negatively to the revelations. A daily dot article showed users commenting that, “This is so disgusting and embarrassing,” and “That makes me sick af just looking at it and its not even my money,”

Drake is reportedly paid $100 million a year to endorse Stake, and in other Instagram posts has defended his frequent posts about gambling on the platform.

In a reel posted a few weeks ago, he commented, “People keep saying, enough with the Stake posts. Enough with the Stake posts, what are you some sort of gambling addict? Am I a gambling addict? Yeah, I’m addcited to being signed to the biggest gambling company in the world.”

Losing big on NBA Playoffs

The post also showed Drake lost $800,000 backing Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 6 of the NBA Playoffs. He placed a $200,000 bet on Oklahoma to win by between 6-10 points, and another $600,000 bet on the moneyline. The Indiana Pacers won the match 108-91, levelling up the series at 3-3 to set up a decisive Game 7 on Sunday.

Lats year, Drake also placed a large bet at Stake’s online sportsbook on the playoffs, staking $500,000 on the Dallas Mavericks who lost out to the Boston Celtics.

This year’s playoffs also caused Jay-Z to lose big. The rapper, who has invested in Fanatics sportsbook, placed a $1 million bet on Oklahoma to win the series 4-1. The loss is offset by his $350 million investment in the company, which is now valued at $475 million.

Bet against the Drake curse

In addition to losing on the NBA, Drake has also posted a series of losing bets on other sports. One of the larger ones was a $1 million bet on Argentina to win the World Cup over 90 minutes (they won on penalties).

A series of unsuccessful bets on boxing and MMA have also led to the “Drake curse” being coined. He lost $615,000 on Tyson Fury defeating Oleksandr Usyk, $700,000 on the UFC fight between Sean Strickland and Du Plessis, as well as $355,000 on the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight.

Bettors may do worse than keep track of Drake’s future bets and gamble against the rapper. A professional gambler, recently inducted into the gambling hall of fame, advised bettors to go against the public.

Drake may also be wise to listen to Jeff Whitelaw’s advice, as he stated, “Use good money management and bet one unit or two units or three units, whatever your unit is, and always do some due diligence. Don’t just blindly bet a game because it’s on TV.”
