Genius Sports has inked a multi-year exclusive data rights deal with the European League Association (ELA) to deliver its technology across an additional 18 divisions.

It will collect, process and distribute official data for sports betting apps from over 8,000 matches per season across 46 men’s and women’s competitions.

The technology is already used in the English Premier League and will now expand to the Dutch Eredivisie, Belgian Pro League and Greek Super League among many others.

General secretary of the ELA, Alberto Colombo, said: “This landmark deal with Genius Sports reflects both the evolution of the sports data market, but also the way technology will play an increasingly intertwined role in the way commercial deals come to fruition.”

Genius Sports will also provide its GeniusIQ platform which focuses on fan engagement, improving officiating accuracy and offering performance insights to the new leagues.

Last year, the firm won a four-year contract to become the Premier League’s official data supplier which includes operating the semi-automated offside technology to help Video Assistant Referees rule on marginal decisions.

Based in London, Genius Sports also provides data to the EFL and France’s Ligue 1.

What Is Genius Sports?

The company provides cutting-edge data, analytics and tech solutions to media outlets, sports leagues, broadcasts and bookmakers.

They offer this data to operators who use the information to compile in-play markets, one of the most popular avenues for bettors in today’s era.

Genius Sports’ betting partners include over 300 brands such as Sky Bet and bet365 – two of the biggest UK betting sites and they provide streams from over 240,000 live sports events every year.

It also works with sports broadcasters to deliver alternate broadcasts that use data and statistics to engage viewers, including Prime Vision with Next Gen Stats on Amazon Prime Video.

Genius Sports is an official partner of the NFL, distributing play-by-play data to media and sports betting operators with a contract currently due to run through the 2027 season.
