Indiana Sports Betting Dips During June as Sportsbooks Report 50%+ Drop in Revenue

The latest monthly revenue report from the Indiana Gaming Commission has revealed that the state’s licensed sportsbooks accepted just over $256.3 million throughout the month of June.

The latest figures represent a drop of 16.8% from May’s sports betting handle of $308.4 million marking the third month in a row the state has reported the lowest handle since August 2021. This is also the first month of 2022 that Indiana sportsbooks accepted less than $300 million in wagers.

Blue Chip Casino continues to dominate the Indiana sports betting industry for the third month in a row as the company reported accepting $79.65 million in wagers. This was significantly lower than the $92 million reported in the previous month. Of that figure, $79.4 million came through the casino’s online partnership with FanDuel.

Ameristar Casino was Blue Chip’s nearest competitor reporting a sports betting handle of $72.6 million, a drop of $15 million from the previous month. Of that total figure, just over $70.9 million came through the casino’s online partnerships with DraftKings ($70.8 million) and theScore ($134,416). Meanwhile wagers at the casino’s retail sportsbooks came to $1.6 million.

Hollywood Lawrenceburg was once again the retail market leader accepting over $5.9 million in wagers during June, down by almost $2 million month-on-month.

Aggregated gross revenue (AGR) dropped significantly for the month with market leader Blue Chip posting $5.5 million, down from the $12.6 million posted in the previous month. Meanwhile Ameristar reported AGR of $3.5 million, down from $7.3 million in May.

Combined AGR for the month dropped from $30.6 million in May to $15.7 million in June. This resulted in state taxes of just $1.4 million , a drop of more than 50% from the $2.9 million collected in May.

Baseball took over as the most popular sport at Indiana sportsbooks with $84.5 million wagered on the sport throughout the month.
