The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission has released its latest sports wagering monthly revenue report revealing that the state’s licensed sports betting operators accepted $108.4 million in bets throughout the month of August. This marks a 22% increase on July’s sports betting handle of $88.9 million.
Mobile sports betting accounted for 87% of the overall handle as online sportsbooks accepted over $96 million in wagers during the month. Meanwhile retail sportsbooks located at the state’s casinos took in $12.3 million in bets. Online payouts amounted to $91.3 million while retail payouts totaled $10.4 million.
Mobile net receipts amounted to $4.7 million while retail net receipts came to $1.9 million. The state’s combined net receipts of $6.6 million generated state taxes of $486,608.
The Isle Casino Hotel Waterloo was the market leader for the month accepting $18.2 million in wagers of which $18.1 million was through its online sportsbook. The Wild Rose in Jefferson reported that it had accepted $12.9 million in bets during the month placing it second on the list while its sister casino Wild Rose in Clinton accepted just over $12 million in bets. Meanwhile, July’s market leader, the Prairie Meadows Racetrack was a distant fourth accepting $10.5 million in wagers.
The report also reveals that American Wagering Inc. was once again the mobile market leader with an online sports betting handle of $34.8 million. Crown IA Gaming LLC took second place on the list as its online sportsbooks accepted $29.8 million in bets throughout the month.
