The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission has released the state’s latest sports betting revenue figures showing that Iowa sportsbooks accepted $210.4 million during the month of September. The latest monthly report reveals that sports betting activity jumped by 94% on August’s handle of $108.4 million.
September’s sports betting activity smashed Iowa’s previous monthly record of $150 million set in January of 2021.
Mobile sports betting operators reported accepting $186.5 million in wagers accounting for 88.6% of all bets made during September, over $90 million more than the previous month. Meanwhile retail sportsbooks reported taking in $23.9 million, almost double the amount reported in August.
Payouts through mobile operators totaled just over $185 million while retail payouts through casino sportsbooks totaled $19.6 million. Online net receipts came to $1.5 million while retail net receipts totaled $4.2 million. The combined net receipt total of $5.7 million yielded state taxes of $512,951.23.
The Isle Casino Hotel Waterloo once again led the sports betting market as its sportsbook accepted $33.6 million in wagers of which $33.2 million were made through the casino’s online sportsbook. Diamond Jo Dubuque reported an overall sports betting handle of $27.9 million while the Wild Rose Jefferson followed closely behind with a handle of $27.8 million. Wild Rose Clinton was next on the list as its sportsbook accepted $24.9 million in wagers for the month.
The report also gives a breakdown of online sports betting operators activity revealing that American Wagering Inc. is once again the mobile market leader with an online handle of $66.5 million. This was just ahead of Crown IA Gaming LLC that reported accepting wagers totaling $64.8 million for the month of September.
