The Louisiana Gaming Control Board has revealed that online sports betting revenue for the month of December totaled $30.5 million, despite a drop in activity compared to the previous month.
December marked the industry’s highest combined revenue total since mobile sports betting in Louisiana launched in January of 2022. The previous monthly record was $28.4 million set in March 2022.
The latest figures were a significant improvement on the previous month’s $27.6 million loss which was attributed to Jim ‘Mattress Mack’ McIngvale collecting several large wagers on the MLB World Series.
Sport betting apps and websites accepted $218.7 million in wagers throughout the month of December, a drop of 6.4% compared to the $233.7 million wagered in November. This represents the third largest handle since online sports betting launched.
According to the LGCB, sports betting operators paid $3.7 million in taxes to the state during the month.
Retail sportsbooks also reported a 45.5% year-on-year jump in revenue to $6.4 million. Sportsbooks accepted $35.6 million in in-person wagers throughout the month, up 1.7% compared to the $35 million wagered in the previous month. As a result, taxes from retail sports betting came to $608,960 for December.
