The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission (MLGCC) has announced that it has issued a sports betting license to Hollywood Casino in Perryville.

According to the announcement, the operator had successfully completed two days of controlled demonstrations when a limited number of customers were allowed to place live wagers. These demonstrations were observed by MLGCC staff and fulfilled the operator’s final requirements for full license approval.

Hollywood Casino is one of the original 17 entities identified by the MLGCC as potential sports betting operators. Following the completion of its application and approval process, Hollywood Casino is now the firth retail sports betting facility to open in the state of Maryland.

The full list of current sports betting facilities available in Maryland is:

  • MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill — opened on December 9th
  • Live! Casino in Hanover — opened on December 10th
  • Horseshoe Casino in Baltimore — opened on December 10th
  • Ocean Downs Casino in Berlin — opened on December 17th
  • Hollywood Casino in Perryville — opened on December 23rd

All five locations were originally awarded the licenses on November 18th by the SWARC, but all had to go through controlled demonstrations prior to being allowed to launch to the general public.

The MLGCC also announced that it had approved licenses for three off-track betting venues (OTBs) which are expected to launch sports betting in early 2022. These are Long Shot’s in Frederick, Riverboat on the Potomac in Colonial Beach, Va., and Greenmount Station in Hampstead.

Sports betting in Maryland officially launched on December 9th when Governor Larry Hogan placed the first bet at the MGM National Harbor in Maryland. Legal Online casinos are sure to follow.
