The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has released its latest revenue report revealing that online gambling operators in Michigan generated over $1.4 billion in gross revenue throughout 2021.
The report includes revenue generated by tribal internet casino gaming and online sports betting operators. According to the data, online casino gaming generated $1.1 billion in gross receipts while mobile sports betting generated $292.2 million.
After deductions for free play incentives and promotions, internet casino and sports betting adjusted gross revenue came to $1.1 billion with $1 billion coming from casino gaming alone.
The combined online handle for casino and sports betting operators came to $3.7 billion.
Taxes paid to the state of Michigan amounted to $208.94 million for the year as online casino gaming operators contributed $201.67 million to the state while mobile sports betting operators contributed $7.27 million.
Meanwhile, the three Detroit casinos paid a combined total of $55.28 million in internet gaming taxes and $4.07 million in mobile sports betting taxes to the city of Detroit.
The report also gives a breakdown of December’s revenues showing that tribal operators generated $156.52 in revenue from gaming and sports betting. This was a drop of 3.2% on the previous month. Adjusted gross receipts for the month from both commercial and tribal operators amounted to $120.6 million for the month.
December also saw commercial and tribal operators reports a monthly record of $121.76 in internet gaming gross revenue beating the previous record of $109.7 million set in October 2021.
Sports betting operators reported a record month as both online and retail sportsbooks reported a combined handle of $484.6 million. This beat the previous record of $473.8 million set in November 2021.
State taxes paid on sports betting for the month of December came to $738,067.
