The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement has released its latest monthly revenue report revealing that the state has become the first to accept over $1 billion in sports wagers in a single month.
September saw New Jersey’s licensed sports betting operators accept $1.01 billion in bets throughout the month, the most that has ever been reported by any state with legal sports betting. The latest figures mark a 52% increase on August’s handle of $664.6 million. The daily average of $33.7 million in bets made is also a new record.
Retail sportsbooks reported accepting $92.6 million in wagers while the state’s 20 mobile sports betting apps took in $918.4 million accounting for 92% of total bets made throughout the month. Sports wagering revenue for the month was $82.4 million, an 82.9% increase on the same period in 2020.
September’s sports betting handle brings the year-to-date total to $7.14 billion and with three months of betting to go and an extremely busy sporting calendar, New Jersey could become the first state to accept over $10 billion in bets in a single year.
The report also revealed that total gaming revenue for September amounted to $453.6 million marking a 40.3% increase on the same period in 2020. New Jersey casinos reported a combined win of $248.5 million while internet gaming win amounted to $122.6 million for the month.
Borgata was once again the retail and online market leader with over $111.8 million in total retail gaming revenue and $45.7 million in online gaming revenue for the month of September.
