The latest revenue report from the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement has revealed that New Jersey licensed sportsbooks accepted over $1.2 billion in wagers during the month of December.
This was the fourth month in a row that the state reported a sports betting handle of over $1 billion and sees New Jersey become the first state to pass the $10 billion mark in a single calendar year. The full year total now sits at $10.9 billion, up considerably from the $6 billion reported in 2020.
New Jersey became the first state to accept over $1 billion in bets in a single month in September of 2021 and continued to break the $1 billion threshold for the remainder of the year. October saw the state set an all-time record as sportsbooks accepted over $1.3 billion in wagers during the year.
Revenue for the month of December came to $59 million from a 4.8% hold, the lowest revenue reported in a billion-dollar month. This marks a significant drop of 48.6% from the previous month when a record $114.8 million was reported.
This brings the total revenue generated for 2021 to $816 million, up 104.7% from the previous year.
Taxes for December amounted to $7.5 million bringing the year total to $102.6 million.
Mobile sports betting accounted for 91.1% of all sports betting activity as locals placed over $1.14 billion online. As a result, the value of wagers placed online for 2021 is $8.83 billion.
Retails sportsbooks accepted over $114 million in wagers during December, down 8.21% on November’s figure.
