North Carolina’s latest retail sportsbook has opened at the Catawba Two Kings Casino‘s temporary facility operated by the Catawba Nation.

Located in Kings Mountain just off the Interstate 85, the new sportsbook will be the third retail outlet to launch since North Carolina sports betting launched in March of 2021. It was previously opened in March of 2021 but closed prior to an official launch which has been delayed several times.

The new temporary sportsbook will be open 24 hours, 7 days a week and has launched just in time for the start of the NFL season. However, online sports betting in North Carolina is still a long way off after lawmakers rejected one of two companion sports betting bills in June of this year.

As it stands, there are now three retail sportsbooks in the state. The two others are operated by the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians in Cherokee and Murphy.

Speaking of the launch, Trent Troxel, vice president of the Catawba Nation Gaming Authority, said:

“The Catawba hopes that a new audience in the Charlotte region and beyond will discover the casino as they come to wager on their favorite teams.”

The Catawba Nation is based in Rock Hill, South Carolina. However, in 2020 the US Interior Department agreed to set aside 17 acres in Cleveland County, North Carolina for the tribe to build a casino. The temporary facility currently has 1,000 gambling machines, including electronic table games. The final two phases of construction of the permanent building are expected to get started by the end of 2022.
