The Ohio Casino Control Commission announced an official launch date of January 1st, 2023 for the state’s online and retail sports betting industry.
Ohio Sports betting will kick off on January 1st 2023
As part of the announcement, the commission also gave a sports gaming implementation timeline. This includes a licensing application window from June 15th to July 15th followed immediately by a second window from July 15th to August 15th.
The first window will see operators make their initial applications for the 25 online sports betting licenses, 40 retail sportsbook licenses, and applications to host kiosks and terminals in bars and restaurants. This window is also open for mobile management service providers and sports betting equipment suppliers.
The following window is for mobile management service providers that want to partner with a second sportsbook. It is also open for establishments that already hold type-C licenses with the Ohio Lottery but that want to add up to two betting kiosks to their premises.
August 1st to November 2nd will see the compliance document licensing window open. This is when sportsbooks will submit their responsible gaming programs and plans along with house rules, and other required procedures such as geofencing measures to be taken.
All sportsbook equipment must be ready for the commission to verify by December 2nd.
