The English Premier League has announced that its members clubs have voted to remove gambling sponsorship from the front of kits.
Clubs voted on the ban today with all clubs agreeing on the move as well as the development of a new code for responsible gambling sponsorship.
The new rules on gambling sponsorship will come into effect at the end of the 2025/26 season. The timeline allows clubs to fulfill their contractual obligations with current sponsors and to seek out new partners.
The league said the clubs had taken the measure “voluntarily in order to reduce gambling advertising”.
At present, eight Premier League clubs have gambling companies as shirt-front sponsors. According to available figures, the value of those deals is around £60 million per year.
The move to voluntarily reduce gambling sponsorship in the Premier League comes ahead of the publication of the gambling white paper. The paper is expected to recommend an outright ban on gambling sponsorship. However, government sources have indicated that it will not implement a ban if the Premier League voluntarily limits gambling sponsorship.
