The Seminole Tribe of Florida has announced that it plans to move forward with expanded gaming following the recent Supreme Court ruling to lift the temporary hold on Florida sports betting.

The tribe has stated that in accordance with the Gaming Compact signed and approved by the Tribe and the State of Florida in 2021, it will launch craps, roulette and sports betting at all six of its Florida-based gaming facilities.

In a statement, Marcellus Osceola Jr., Chairperson of the Seminole Tribe of Florida said:

“The Seminole Tribe thanks the State of Florida, the U.S. Department of the Interior and the U.S. Department of Justice for defending our Compact. By working together, the Tribe, the State and the federal government achieved a historic legal victory. “

Governor Ron DeSantis added:

“The Seminole Tribe of Florida’s new initiative will create jobs, increase tourism, and provide billions in added revenue for our state. I was proud to work with the Tribe on our historic Gaming Compact and I look forward to its full implementation.”

U.S. Supreme Court Gives Sports Betting Go Ahead

Earlier in October, the U.S. Supreme Court declined to block a federal appeals court ruling that allows the Seminole Tribe to provide online sports betting products and services in the state of Florida.

According to a brief unsigned order, the court turned down a request by the legal team representing two casinos in Florida to put the appeal court’s decision on hold while they sought a Supreme Court review. The decision followed encouragement from the Biden administration to move the case forward.

As a result of the Supreme Court’s ruling, the Seminole Tribe was effectively given the green light to launch sports betting and expanded gaming options at its casino properties.
