Kieran Trippier – Atlético Madrid and England national team defender is free to resume playing in La Liga following failure of the Football Association’s (FA) appeal to extend Kieran Tripper’s match suspension for sports-betting violations.

Trippier was issued with a ten week match ban after it was revealed that he had encouraged some of his friends to bet on his transfer from Tottenham Hotspur to Atlético Madrid in 2019 in a WhatsApp chat.

Following the suspension, Atlético Madrid appealed the decision and FIFA the world governing body of soccer paused the suspension, enabling Trippier to participate in a match against Sevilla on Tuesday, which Atlético Madrid won 2-0.

If FIFA rejects the appeal the matter could be taken to the ICAS (international Court of Arbitration for Sport).

The FA was quoted as saying “We accept that the suspension is probably having a deleterious effect upon KT’s transfer prospects”.

Trippiers ban expires on 28th February, 2020.
